Rural Electric Youth Tour

Any high school student in the Northern Electric service area who has previously gone on the South Dakota Rural Electric Youth Excursion is eligible to apply for the Youth Tour trip to Washington D.C.

Youth Tour is a gathering of more than 1,800 teens representing electric co-ops from across the country. During the week-long tour, teens visit the memorials and monuments in Washington D.C., learn about cooperatives and meet with the congressional delegations from their respective states.

Each Northern Electric Cooperative entrant must submit an essay of at least 500 words on a topic selected annually. Essays must be typed and include a cover sheet which includes essay title, the entrant's name, parents' names, address, telephone number, school and year in school. Essays must be returned by the deadline to Northern Electric Cooperative, PO Box 457, Bath, SD 57427. The entrants will be critically evaluated, and by early April one entrant from the Northern Electric service area will be selected as the winner for the rural electric Youth Tour to Washington D.C.
