Our electric cooperative is helping perpare our future

Youth Excursion:

Each summer rural electric cooperatives in South Dakota sponsor area students at the South Dakota Rural Electric Youth Excursion.  This FREE three-day event takes place in Bismark, ND. Participants will tour Great Plains Synfuels Plant, Freedom Coal Mine and Antelope Valley Station Power Plant. All are area high school freshmen, sophomore, and juniors whose parents or guardians are members of the rural electric cooperative are eligible to enter the contest.

Contact Northern Electric Cooperative for more information and an application form.  Participants of the Youth Excursion are also eligible to compete for the Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, DC.

Any high school student in the Northern Electric service area who has previously gone on the Northern Electric Youth Excursion is eligible to apply for the 2008 Youth Tour.

Each entrant must submit an essay of AT LEAST 500 words on atopic selected annually. Essays must be typed and include a cover sheet which includes essay title, the entrant’s name, parents’ names, address, telephone number, school and year in school. Essays must be returned by the deadline to Northern Electric, PO Box 457, Bath, SD 57427. The entrants will be critically evaluated and, by early April, one entrant from the Northern Electric service area will be selected as the winner for the 2008 Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington D.C.
