Student Graduates

Our children's future is part of our electric cooperative

Each year Northern Electric Cooperative and Basin Electric Cooperative provide a $500 and $1,000 scholarship respectively. The selection of the winners in based on SAT/ACT scores, grade point average, an application outlining high school/college honors, community and school activities, employment history, and future career goals, a short essay focused on an electricity or cooperative theme (new topic selected every year) and a written recommendation by a third party. Scholarship due date for the 2013 year is February 18th.

2012 Scholarship Winners:

Emily Sperry

Emily Sperry      

The $1,000 scholarship recipient for 2012, Emily Sperry, attends Dakota State University. After years of community, co-curricular, and extra-curricular involvement and educational achievements, Emily is pursuing a degree in Digital Arts and Design with minors in Digital Photography and Multimedia Web Design. Her parents are Northern Electric Members Scott and Kathy Sperry of Bath. Emily is very involved at DSU. She is a Student Ambassador and Orientation Leader, a member of the Choir, Colleges Against Cancer, the Newman Club, and Collegiate 4-H.

Mariah Taylor

Mariah Taylor

This year's $500 scholarship was awarded to Mariah Taylor who attends Northwestern Area High School.  Mariah will pursue a degree in Pre-Pharmacy at South Dakota State University in the fall. She is the daughter of NEC members Arden and Nancy Taylor of Northville. Mariah was active in Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Field, National Honors Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Band, Science Club, Teens for Christ, and Piano.

Tiffany Lundberg 

Tiffany Lundberg

Every year twenty-five $1,000 scholarships are awarded to children of Basin Electric or its subsidiary employees. Tiffany Lundberg, the daughter of NEC Line Foreman, Terry Lundberg and his wife Bonnie was awarded a scholarship from Basin. Tiffany is a senior at Aberdeen Central High School and will pursue a degree in Nursing at either South Dakota State University or North Dakota State University in the fall. Tiffany is active in Volleyball, Basketball, ESD Honerable Mention in Volleyball, recipient of the Wendy's Heisman award, Student of the Month, Honor Roll, nominated for the Elite 15, All State Academic in Volleyball, recipient of Rookie of the Year, Spirit of the Eagle, and Most Improved.
