Each year Northern Electric Cooperative and Basin Electric Cooperative provide a $500 and $1,000 scholarship respectively. The selection of the winners in based on SAT/ACT scores, grade point average, an application outlining high school/college honors, community and school activities, employment history, and future career goals, a short essay focused on an electricity or cooperative theme (new topic selected every year) and a written recommendation by a third party. Scholarship due date for the 2014 year is February 17th.

2013 Scholarship Winners:
The $1,000 scholarship recipient for 2013, Mark Sperry, attends Northern State University. After years of community, co-curricular, and extra-curricular involvement and educational achievements, Mark is pursuing a degree in Biology/Biotechnology. His parents are Northern Electric Members Scott and Kathy Sperry of Bath. Mark is very involved at NSU. He is Lindberg Residence Hall Council President, a member of the honors program, Science Club, Lion's Club, orientation leader, marching and concert bands, and Newman Club.
This year's $500 scholarship was awarded to Alyssa Jung who attends Warner High School. Alyssa will pursue a degree in Psychology at Presentation in the fall. She is the daughter of NEC members Stan and Kari Jung of Warner. Alyssa is active in Volleyball and Basketball and is team captain on both teams. She is also in Band, Choir the honor roll, and was class secretary.
